Sheila E. to headline Rehoboth Beach Jazz Fest

Announcement party, CD release set April 27 at Old Bay

Singer, drummer and percussionist Sheila E., best known for her work with Prince, George Duke and Ringo Starr, is among headliners for the 2013 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival. The multitalented entertainer will take the stage Thursday, Oct. 17 at Cape Henlopen High School as the opening act for the festival, which will continue through Oct. 20 with events that include happy hours, a free family concert featuring the Mummer String Band, a wine tasting and more.

Jazz fest will continue Friday, Oct. 18, with Najee and Alex Bugnon opening for Keiko Matsui. The Villages at Five Points will again be the site of a free family concert Saturday, oct. 19, featuring the Mummer String Bands contest, Southern Delaware Choral Society, clown acts, magic shows and various vendors.

Mindi Abair and Peter White will perform a Saturday afternoon show at Cape high school, followed by a 2:30 p.m. show at Epworth United Methodist Church featuring Jeff Lorber Fusion and Steve Cole. At 4 p.m. Saturday, Jazz Meets James with a show featuring Nick Colionne, Matt Marshak, Alex Bugnon, Gerald Albright, Art Sherrod, Shilts, Marion Meadows and Shiela E.

Rhythm and blues and jazz singer Will Downing is headliner of Saturday night's show at Cape High School. Rehoboth Beach All-Stars 2013 will take the stage in a late-night show at 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the convention center. The all-star lineup will feature Peter White, Mindi Abair, Jeff Lorber, Nick Colionne, Gerald Albright, Shiela E. and Steve Cole.

A special gospel service will open events Sunday, Oct. 20 at Cape Henlopen High School. The show returns to the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center for a Final Grand Jam from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, featuring many of the festivals headliners and the usual array of special guest performers. Closing party for the jazz fest will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Old Bay.

Organizers will host a special jazz festival artist announcement party and CD release of "Just What You Need" by smooth jazz artist Brian Simpson featuring Art Sherrod Jr.at Old Bay Restaurant on Route 1 in Rehoboth. Show time is 9 p.m. Those who attend will be given the opportunity to buy tickets for the jazz festival.
