Prepping Your Rehoboth Beach Home for Rental Season
If you own a home in Rehoboth Beach, you are probably beginning to think about rental season. With it now being April, renters will start to come usually in June and rotate through for the summer. Now is the time to prepare your house so you can have happy renters all summer long. Happy renters are recurring renters, which is always a good thing. Sure, you will have to do cleanings throughout the summer, but the bigger projects should be done now while you have time. And so it won’t take away from your summer plans!
Below are some ideas of what to run through, update, clean and prepare before rental season is upon us:
- Clean those areas that usually get missed during routine cleanings. These things include curtains, corners of rooms and edges of carpets, the hard to reach tiles in the shower, the fabrics on furniture, bedspreads, the stove, fridge/freezer, cabinets, etc.
- Spruce up the yard. Give your yard a pick-me-up after the winter. Do some trimming, plant flowers, pull out weeds, and clean out any debris from winter storms.
- Do a survey of the linens. Are the bed sheets and towels beginning to look tired and ratty? Perhaps it’s time for an update – it doesn’t have to be an expensive one. Yes, they are just renters and it’s hard to justify spending extra money, but like we said, happy renters are what we want!
- Clean out toy bin. If you have beach toys and other items for your renters to borrow while they are there, take a look through. If there are broken or rusty toys, give them a toss. You don’t want any children to get hurt on your property. Perhaps replace some of these items if you feel so inclined to do so. It will be a nice treat for the renters.
- Be on the lookout for pests. And no, we don’t mean your next-door neighbors! If you notice any of signs of ants, termites, rodents, or anything of the sort, now is the time to either call an exterminator or try to remedy the situation yourself. Your renters either won’t care about the pests and the pests will do damage to your home, or your renters will be calling you to complain.
- Check the deck, basement, and any other likely places for damage from water or moisture. Since there is a lot of moisture in the air by the ocean, this can cause rusting and damage to wood. Also, there may have been water damage to certain places from the weather/storms during the winter.
