Claire M. Daniels, native Delawarean

Claire M. Daniels, 63, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2013, after a courageous and long battle with cancer.

Claire was the daughter of the late George H. Daniels Sr. and Mary M. Daniels. She was also predeceased by Chad R. Litchford, her nephew and one of her heroes.

Claire was a native Delawarean, born in Wilmington.

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, George H. (Danny) Daniels Jr. and Beverly Troiani of Lewes; her sister, Veronica (Roni) A. Daniels of Wilmington; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl F. and Carol Daniels of Houston, Texas; and sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (Patty) D. Litchford and Charles R. Litchford Sr. of Wilmington. She was also survived by her nieces and nephews: Courtney Daniels (Jimmy Armada); Kristen Dotti and her daughter, Chloe Dotti; Charles R. Litchford (Chuck); Christopher Litchford; and Owen Chad Litchford; Allen and Marion Aune and their children, Austin and Kailyn Aune.

Claire worked at Wilmington Trust for 25 years, prior to making a career change in 1999. She then joined The Glenmede Trust Company as the assistant to the regional director and office manager.

Claire and her family request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to her favorite charities, Saint Martin's Ministries, 14259 Benedictine Lane, Ridgely, MD 21660, or the foundation for research at St. Jude's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Dr. Gail Simpson's office at the Helen F. Graham Center, 4701 Ogletown-Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713, or Compassionate Care at Saint Francis Hospital, 701 N. Clayton St., Wilmington, DE 19805 in honor of the wonderful care that the entire team showed Claire and our family during her difficult walk with cancer.

We would like to thank Dr. Vest, Dr. Simpson and her oncology nurses and team, and thank Dr. Strasser and his radiology nurses and team members, the staff of Compassionate Care, for the excellent care they gave to Claire.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Shipley and Weldin roads, Wilmington. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, at the Mealey Funeral Home, 2509 Limestone Road, Wilmington. There will be no morning calling hours.
