2014 Delaware Waterfowl and Trout Stamp winner announced

The results are in, and the winner of both of Delaware’s sporting stamp art contests is Indiana artist Jeffrey Klinefelter. His painting of a blue-winged teal will become the 2014 Delaware Waterfowl Stamp, and his painting of a brown trout will become the 2014 Delaware Trout Stamp.

The paintings won top honors in the DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife’s annual stamp art competition held April 11 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover. This year’s competition drew 41 entries for the 2014 Waterfowl Stamp and 13 entries for the 2014 Trout Stamp.

A resident of Etna Green, Ind., wildlife artist Klinefelter has numerous stamp art wins in state competitions, including two past Delaware Waterfowl Stamps and four past Delaware Trout Stamps. Most recently, Klinefelter won the 2013 Duck Stamp competitions in North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio, as well as the Trout Stamp and the Game Bird Stamp in Indiana. Klinefelter first became interested in art at age 5, began working in oils as a sixth-grader and now favors working in gouache and acrylics.

Klinefelter said he was surprised when he heard about his double win. “To win both is just something else,” he said. “I’m very, very pleased … and I’m going to keep painting.”

As the Trout Stamp winner, Klinefelter receives $250 and retains the rights to reproduce and sell prints of the stamp. As Waterfowl Stamp winner, he receives a $2,500 prize and 150 artist’s proofs of the limited-edition print series of his first-place duck entry.

The winning 2014 Delaware Waterfowl Stamp will be available July 1, 2014, and the winning 2014 Delaware Trout Stamp will be available Jan. 1, 2014.

Waterfowl Stamp and Trout Stamp entries are on display through Monday, April 29, at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village, 866 N.
