Two charged in Salisbury hospital abduction

April 19, 2013

A Harbeson man and a Lewes man face kidnapping and other charges after police say they abducted a woman from a Salisbury hospital.

Earl T. Allen, 44, of Harbeson went to Peninsula Regional Medical Center April 15 when his ex-girlfriend, 31, was receiving undisclosed medical treatment, said Capt. Scott Kolb of the Salisbury City Police Department.

Allen followed his ex-girlfriend into a treatment area and pulled out a handgun after a nurse left; he threatened to kill her and her children if she did not follow his instructions and leave the hospital, Kolb said.

The woman left the hospital with Allen and they got into a car driven by Oliver Kenyard Maull, 49, of Lewes. The woman tried to get out of the car several times but Allen physically restrained her, Kolb said.

She was able to get out of the car at Route 13 and Centre Road where she ran through a parking lot of a nearby business. A witness saw her running when Allen and Maull stopped near her and tried to pull her into the car. The witness helped her and called police, Kolb said.

The woman was treated at PRMC for a minor injury and released.

Police arrested Maull on April 16 and Allen on April 18.

They both were charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Allen also was charged with handgun on person and concealed dangerous weapon. Maull was charged with firearm used in felony violent crime and handgun in vehicle.
