Hazel Dora Baker, hospital volunteer

Hazel Dora Baker, 86, of Bethel passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013, at the Seaford Center.

Hazel was born in Seaford, a daughter of the late Lawrence Fritz and Anna Hazel Jester. She retired from the Acme Markets as a cashier for 26 years; she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel and an active member of O.E.S. She also was a volunteer at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for 25 years and a member of the Red Hat Society. During World War II she was a spotter for the military.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters, Donna Saunders of Long Neck, Dorey Cumming and husband Bob of Seaford, and Reta Leath and husband Jeff of Brownsville, Pa.; grandchildren, Marcie Hassett, Cathie Tyler, Mallory, Philip and Kyle Leath, along with four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her husband Ralph E. Baker, and her siblings, Oliver Jester and Doris Haynes.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 22, at the Hannigan, Short, Disharoon Funeral Home in Laurel, where a viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Joseph Burris will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Bethel.
