Pooches in the Park event comes to Lewes Canalfront Park May 18

Pooches in the Park, a festive new event which caters to both two-legged and four-legged family members, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 18, in Lewes Canalfront Park.

The day will feature a doggie spa for massages and acupuncture to drool over, pet portraits, specialized vendors, games and prizes. Furry friends will also be showcasing their obedience, agility, and dock-diving skills. This event is supported by the Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park, Savannah Animal Hospital and P.U.P.S. (Pawsitively Unique Pet Shop), both located in Lewes. Pooches should be on a maximum six-foot, nonretractable leash.

There is an entrance fee of $5 per dog (payable either onsite or online via PayPay at and one dog per handler is requested. There is no charge for two-legged family members.

Other upcoming events include Yoga with Soul Yoga at 8 a.m. every Sunday, May 12 through Sept. 1. The event is free. Attendees should bring their own mat and towel.

At 6 p.m. every Wednesday, May 15 through Aug. 28, Zumba with Kelly is also free.

From 8 a.m. to noon, Sunday, May 19, is Fitness n' Fun. Activities are free and include yoga, Pilates, Zumba, kick boxing, group and kid fitness sessions, and kayak and stand-up paddling led by local fitness professionals, including sponsor Quest Fitness and Kayak. Lewes Canalfront Park is also the site of other 2013 events including Picnic in the Park, Concerts by the Canal and Cinema by the Canal. The Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park support the programs of the park while the City of Lewes provides maintenance. The Friends organization welcomes new members and volunteers.
