Sussex Tech announces Teacher of the Year

Social studies teacher Deborah Kenton Long of Milford was named Teacher of the Year at Sussex Technical High School for the second time. She also received the honor in 2008-09.

Nominated by a student,  Long was commended for caring a lot for all her students “no matter who you are or what your grade is,” according to the nomination form. The student also noted that Long “is always working to make things better and easier to understand.”

Long has been teaching at Sussex Tech for eight years. She graduated from Milford High School in 1997 and from Wesley College in 2001 with a bachelor of arts degree in history. She continued her graduate studies at Wesley and earned a master of arts degree in teaching in 2002. She teaches world history and psychology at Sussex Tech. Long has also been an assistant varsity softball coach for the Lady Ravens. Long will represent Sussex Tech in the State Teacher of the Year competition of which the winner will be announced in the fall.
