Georgetown man dies in Millsboro crash

May 2, 2013

A Georgetown man, 57, died and another man was injured after a pick-up truck ran off the road April 30 west of Georgetown.

A Ford F150 was travelling north on Jones Store Road south of Hardscrabble Road at 3:15 p.m. when the vehicle left the roadway. The driver over-corrected as he tried to return to the roadway, causing the truck to roll on its left side before sliding into a drainage ditch, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Thomas Phillips, 57, and Jay E. Kerley, 54, both of Georgetown were thrown from the truck; they were taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital for their injuries, Fournier said.

Kerley was treated and released; Phillips died May 1.

Police do not know who was driving the pick-up truck. Jones Store Road was closed for about three hours.
