Del Tech to host entrepreneurial program May 16

May 7, 2013

Delaware Technical Community College’s Corporate and Community Programs Division is partnering with the Sussex Economic Development Action Committee to host monthly events to encourage and support business development in the county. The first one will be held Thursday, May 16, in the Student Services Center at Delaware Tech in Georgetown.

Each event will start with an 8 a.m. session, based on the Kauffman Foundation’s One Million Cups initiative, in which two individuals present their entrepreneurial ideas to a group of businesspeople who will provide them with feedback. Those sessions will be followed by the Sussex County is Open for Business fairs from 9 to 11 a.m. that SEDAC has hosted since 2011.

“SEDAC recognizes the value in bringing together the talent and expertise of partners working toward the common goal of economic development in Sussex County,” said SEDAC Program Manager Tricia W. Matsko. “Sussex County is Open for Business provides attending entrepreneurs and small businesses the opportunity to meet with a variety of agencies for free consultation on their business ventures. We are excited about partnering with Delaware Tech to add the new One Million Cups element that links the community together in a learning atmosphere.”

The events will be hosted on the third Thursday of every month at Delaware Tech in Georgetown, and the public is welcome to attend and take advantage of the opportunity to receive free business development consultations, locate financial and coaching resources, brainstorm with experts and focus on business fundamentals.

Examples of organizations that have participated in Sussex County is Open for Business in the past include Delaware Small Business & Technology Development Center, Sussex County Economic Development Office, Delaware Economic Development Office, Delaware Tech’s Entrepreneurial Program, SCORE Delaware, U.S. Small Business Administration, YWCA Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship, Delaware State University Delaware Center for Enterprise Development, Southern Delaware Tourism and Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
