Fire Marshal: Greenwood house fire intentionally set

May 6, 2013

A Greenwood home was damaged May 5 after a deputy state fire marshal says someone intentionally set a fire.

A neighbor called about a fire at 9:43 p.m. in the unit block of Gardenia Boulevard in Blairs Pond Estates, said B. Scott Bullock, chief deputy state fire marshal.

Smoke was coming from the home when Houston Fire Co. firefighters arrived; they rescued a 46-year-old woman from the home, Bullock said.

She was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation and later transferred to Chester Crozer Burn Center in Pennsylvania. She is in stable condition.

The fire was extinguished at about 10 p.m.

The deputy state fire marshal investigated the cause of the fire and determined someone intentionally set it, Bullock said. Damages were estimated at $25,000.
