Ruth Ann Brown, warm, caring person

Ruth Ann Brown, 79, of Lewes, formerly Claymont, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Atlantic Shores Health Care Center in Millsboro, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wilmington, Ruth Ann was a homemaker for many years. Later she worked at Winterthur Museum and retired in 1991 as the postmistress. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and enjoyed genealogy. Ruth Ann loved to collect books and was an avid reader.

Ruth Ann was a very warm and caring person whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles M. Brown.

She is survived by her children, Diane Carney (Jack) of Bethany Beach, Sandra Roberts (William) also of Bethany Beach, Charles Brown Jr. (Debbie) of Wilmington and David Brown (Debbie) of Middletown; grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Alex, Kassandra, Elizabeth, Adam, Eric, Kyle and Taylor; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her long time friend and companion, William Revis.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff at Atlantic Shores Health Center for their extraordinary care and compassion.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 10, from 7-9 p.m. at the McCrery and Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A service of celebration will be held Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 4900 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Burial will follow in Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Ruth's memory may be made to the Helen Graham Cancer Center, 4701 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, DE 19713.
