Michael Zajic, president of Southern Delaware Botanic Gardens Inc. invites the public to a meeting at the Dagsboro Fire House at 31818 Waples St., Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation on a public botanic garden to be built in the Dagsboro area.
Southern Delaware Botanic Gardens Inc. is a nonprofit organization founded by local citizens to create a flagship public garden in Delaware. They have located a spot on Piney Neck Road outside Dagsboro and propose to lease the 38-acre site from the Sussex County Land Trust. It has frontage on Pepper Creek.
Delaware has no public flagship botanical garden which could benefit the publicas a place of great beauty and education. It would provide the area with many good jobs and some year round tourism, Zajic said. It would preserve and enhance open space and teach about the watershed and estuary ecosystems, as well as about native plants of Delaware.
The group's engineering firm, Pennoni Associates, will be there, too, for site plan questions. The site plan will be displayed.
