Name of Dogfish private road approved

The private road lead­ing up to Dogfish Head's new 80,000-square-foot warehouse will be named Off Centered Way. Milton Town Council unani­mously approved the appropriate street name at its May 13 meet­ing. For more information, call town hall at 302-684-4110.

Cape Henlopen school board holds meetings

The Cape Henlopen school board will hold two commu­nity meetings starting at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21, to discuss the future of the district’s elementary schools.

Discussion will include renovations, construction and increased enrollment facing the district.

Milton council taps PKS for 2013-15 audits

Milton Town Council vot­ed unanimously to enter into a three-year contract with ac­counting firm PKS & Company for the town's audits.

The agreement covers the town's fiscal years 2013, 2014 and 2015 audits and will cost the town $18,000, $18,720 and $19,469, respectively. Milton's fiscal year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30. For more information, call town hall at 302-684-4110.

Heritage Creek in Milton moving along

Heritage Creek, located on Route 5 in Milton, is making progress. Milton Town Coun­cil voted to reduce builder Fernmoor Homes' bond from $832,000, or 125 percent of the to­tal cost to build the community, down to about $419,000 to reflect the work already completed. Council also referred the compa­ny's subdivision application for Phase 5 of Heritage Creek to the planning and zoning commission for review. For more information, call town hall at 302-684-4110.

Sussex County will unveil 2104 budget

Sussex County will unveil its proposed fiscal 2014 budget at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 21, in county council chambers of the county administration building on The Circle in Georgetown. The pub­lic is invited to attend. Meantime, the proposed budget will go to public hearing before county council at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, June 18.

Lewes BPW to adopt sewer rate increase

Lewes Board of Public Works will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, in City Hall. Items on the agenda include recommendations to adopt reso­lutions suspending water rate increases, increasing sewer rates and maintaining electric rates.

The panel will also discuss a collection policy change for late payment and shutoff notices, and authorizing the general manager to sign mutual aid agreements with the American Public Power Association and Delaware Rural Water Association.

Lewes to consider zoning amendments

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet in City Hall at 7 p.m., Monday, May 20.

Agenda items include consid­eration of amending municipal code chapters on dwelling units and property maintenance re­garding disposition of vacant and derelict properties and gen­eral property maintenance; an ordinance amending city zoning code Table of Permitted Uses & Structures and administrative reviews, variances and special exceptions related to permitting certain uses and structures by special exception in the Marine Commercial zoning district; zon­ing code definitions of dwelling and townhouse, and attaching a table of dimensional regulations for zones R-5, LC and LC(H), relating to the definition of dwell­ing, townhouse, and dimensional regulations of dwelling, town­house and two-family dwelling.

Other zoning code amend­ment considerations include: permitting places of worship in all zoning districts except Open Space zone; front yards in cor­ner and through-lots; fences, hedgerows and landscaping along Lewes-Rehoboth Canal; the definition of slip, and a table of permitted boat slip uses in the Open Space zoning district.

The panel will consider a re­quest by Bethel United Methodist Church Trustee Committee for the addition of two handicapped parking spaces, not limited to Sundays, near the Fourth and Market street ramp entrance, and additional off-street parking for Bethel staff on the parsonage property at the corner of Fourth and Market streets; a request by Steven and Jennifer Kochie for extension to an indenture on property at 2 Cape Shore Drive, beginning Nov. 7, 2013 and ter­minating Nov. 6, 2149; a request to hold the Dragon Boat Festival in Lewes Canalfront Park on Sun­day, Sept. 15, and use boat docks Wednesday, Sept. 11, through Monday, Sept 16; solicitation of bids for Railroad and Madison avenues street rehabilitation project; and Lewes Planning Commission recommendation for approval to recombine prop­erty at 524 Kings Highway, owned by Mary Galbraith, with a vacant lot, and then permit a minor subdivision into four lots with conditions. Mayor and council will also discuss Lewes Parks & Recreation Commission recom­mendation for approval of a logo and 30-by-36-inch sign at the Children’s Learning Garden in Stango Park, and additional com­ponents for the garden to include five benches, two picnic tables, an 8-by-3-foot storage locker and additional evergreens planted on the track-side; and a Lewes Capital Projects Committee rec­ommendation to develop free parking with signage on “paper streets” that intersect with Cedar Avenue. Paper streets show on the city’s survey but are not ac­tual streets, paved or otherwise.

The panel will meet in an executive session regarding Fraternal Order of Police con­tract negotiations and personnel issues related to hiring a new police officer.

Executive sessions are closed to the public. Mayor and city council will return to public session before taking action on matters discussed in executive session.
