Letha Mae Sturgis, died on 104th birthday

Letha Mae Sturgis, 104, of Milton, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on her birthday Wednesday, May 15, 2013.

 

Mrs. Sturgis was born in Marion, S.C., to the late Wash and Carrie Smith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Handy Sturgis. She worked in the poultry industry, but most of her work was as a caregiver and volunteer at the Lewes Convalescent Center.

She was a member of St. Matthew's Baptist Church in Bishopville, Md. She was the first president of the Missionary Society and served as a missionary herself. She attended the Milton CHEER Center Bible studies. She was very faithful to her church and only missed church if she was in the hospital. She lived an exciting, vibrant, active life until only one week ago.

 

She is survived by one daughter, Louise Artie Bolton of Millsboro; two grandchildren, Jimmie Balton, and Catherine Harmon and husband Leon; three great-grandchildren, Lisa Bolden, Pamela Coleman and husband Shawn, and Ardie Bolden; three great-great-grandchildren, Troy Bolden, Tomekia Bolden and Kimberly Bolden; and six great-great-great-grandchildren, Rayshawn Bolden, Xavier Harmon, Zimere Bolden, Jayden Hack, Jakai Hack and Zion Bolden. She is also survived by many cousins, extended family members and friends.

 

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Bishopville, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. John 2nd Baptist Church Cemetery, Millsboro.
