DelDOT urges safe and smart holiday travel this weekend

May 24, 2013

The Department of Transportation reminds motorists to anticipate heavier than normal traffic on Delaware's highways beginning Friday, May 24.

Planned lane closures on Delaware’s major roadways, Route 1, I-95, and U.S. Route 202 will be suspended beginning May 24 until midnight Monday, May 27. Traffic accidents and other unpredictable types of transportation incidents may cause lane closures and/or delays.

DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center will provide continuous monitoring of traffic conditions across the state. Radio station, WTMC-1380AM offers motorists real-time traffic information throughout Delaware. Motorists can contact the TMC 24/7 to report any travel or traffic related issues at the following numbers: Dial #77 from any cell phone; 302-659-4600 or 1-800-324-8379.

Motorists can adjust their routes or travel times by using DelDOT’s Smartphone application. The DelDOT App is available for Apple and Android smart phones and tablets, and can be downloaded free at the Apple and Google Play stores.

Those interested can view video of “Live Traffic” conditions in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties at www.DelDOT.gov/information/travel_advisory.

Social media outlets allow following DelDOT by pressing the Twitter icon or Facebook icon buttons on DelDOT’s website or going directly to twitter.com/DelawareDOT or http://www.facebook.com/DelawareDOT.
