Annual “Miracle Mile” Cancer Survivor Walk Celebrates 10th Anniversary June 8 in Rehoboth Beach

May 20, 2013

In celebration of National Cancer Survivors’ Day, Beebe Medical Center’s Tunnell Cancer Center will host its 10th annual Miracle Mile cancer survivors’ walk, on June 8 on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk.

Over the years, Miracle Mile has attracted hundreds of cancer survivors, their friends, family members and healthcare providers to share in the celebration of life and in the survivor’s focus on making each day a special one.  Because this year’s walk marks a decade milestone, plans are under way to make it a special one. As part of the festivities, a Spirit of Hope Award will be presented.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Olive Ave in Rehoboth Beach with registration. Participants then will gather at 8 a.m. and proceed to the boardwalk where they will gather together for a ceremony and then a short walk. They will return to the church for a light breakfast.

“The Miracle Mile celebrates cancer survivorship,” says Judith Ramirez, EdD, Manager of Psychosocial Services and Outreach at Tunnell Cancer Center and organizer of the Miracle Mile. “And with this year being the 10th anniversary, it truly is a special one.”

All are welcome to this free event. Please contact the Tunnell Cancer Center at 302-645-3770 for more information, to register, or for special assistance the day of the event. Call early to receive a T-shirt.

To nominate someone for the Spirit of Hope Caregiver Award, please get a nomination form from the Tunnell Cancer Center at the 18941 John J. Williams Highway, Rehoboth Beach. The Center is about a mile from the intersection with Coastal Highway. The award recognizes someone for supporting a survivor in extraordinary ways.
