Two people were injured May 24 after a motorcycle struck a turning car near Harbeson.

Danielle M. Ware, 40, of Harbeson was travelling westbound on Route 9 east of Route 5 when she stopped her 2003 Jaguar XTY to turn left into a private driveway, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

As Ware made her turn, a 2006 Suzuki K6R motorcycle driven by Richard A. Smith, 25, of Milton was travelling eastbound on the shoulder of Route 9 and struck the right side of the Jaguar, Fournier said.

Smith was thrown from the motorcycle; he was taken to Beebe Medical Center where he was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries, Fournier said.

Ware, who was property restrained, was taken to Christiana Medical Center by helicopter for serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, Fournier said.

Smith was wearing a helmet; he was cited for improper passing on the shoulder, Fournier said.
