Thoughts From the Sidelines

Let the summer begin!

May 30, 2013

I have pretty much the same attitude about the NBA as I do the NHL in that I don't pay that much attention to the individual results of the playoff games until the finals. So it's close enough now to mention that San Antonio beat Memphis in the Western Conference finals with four straight wins, but three of them were close. In the Eastern Conference, Miami is playing Indiana in the series which is tied 2-2. The finals can be seen on ESPN.

The Phillies didn't do anything all that newsworthy this week with their weak efforts in putting together any kind of a winning streak, but they did get a little attention with their baseball celebration on Memorial Day by wearing camouflage hats and jerseys. These items will be auctioned off for charity.

We should all try to stay local this weekend, the first NASCAR race weekend at Dover Downs. The traffic is bad enough as is right here in Rehoboth! It looks like the weather will be perfect for the race fans. I can guarantee you that next week you will not be getting a blow-by-blow recap of the race from me. That is one of the rare sports that I do not follow.

I want to say congratulations to the Cape high school women's lacrosse team for winning their fifth straight state championship. They took the title once again in the final game against Tower Hill. The men's team lost in the semifinals but had a great season. I'm sure there will be much of the same with next year's teams.
