V. Floyd Wescott, retired truck driver

V. Floyd Wescott of Selbyville passed away at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington, Tuesday, May 28, 2013.

Born June 14, 1933, in Wardtown, Va., he was the son of the late Thomas and Novilla Smith Wescott. He was married to Miss Ella Rayne in 1954, in Berlin, Md. His beloved wife, after 57 years of marriage, survives him. He worked for over 30 years as a truck driver for Perdue Inc., and was a very active man who enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits. He loved eating the game he hunted. He was a member of St. John A.M.E. Church, in Bishopville, Md., where he had served as a member of the board of trustees, and also had served in the choir.

He will be sadly missed. He is survived by seven children: Larry Wescott and his wife Pauline, of Bishopville, Inez Warden and her husband William of Dagsboro, Katherine Wescott of Selbyville, Villie Wescott and his wife Jymayce of Millsboro, Yvonnise Bullock, and husband Robert, also of Millsboro, Troy Wescott and his wife Tammy, of Hopewell, Va., and Drexter Briddell and his wife Marilyn, of Berlin. Floyd is also survived by his siblings: Corine Collins, Betty Sue Johnson, Phyllis DeShields and her husband Arthur, and John Wescott and his wife Stephanie. He was preceded by a brother, Thomas Wescott, and a sister, Margaret Bratten. He has 15 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, along with numerous cousins, extended family and many, many friends.

A funeral service, and celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, June 3, at New Holy Trinity Church on First Street in Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior for visitation. Elder Dexter Taylor will officiate. Interment follows at Zoar Golden Acres Cemetery, in Bishopville. Floral tributes are welcomed.
