Stephen C. Vaughn Sr., former Lewes resident

Stephen C. Vaughn Sr., 88, of Mount Dora, Fla., left this earth to join the heavenly band playing his favorite instrument, the saxophone Saturday, June 1, 2013. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 14, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Mt Dora.

Born in Lewes June 13, 1924, he was the son of Molloy C. Vaughn Sr., former secretary of agriculture of Delaware, and Estelle Rogers Vaughn of Dixie-Del Farms. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Sharp Vaughn; their three sons: Stephen Jr. (Marilyn), Robert (Karen), and Marc (partner Lisa Malloy), all of Mt Dora; four grandchildren: Lani Lang (David), Lori, Dylan, and Marlie; three great-grandchildren: Jaclyn, Lois and Luke Lang; sister: Louise Hanby of Ocala, Fla.; brother: William Vaughn of Newark; and cousins: Patsy Joyner of Alabama and Barbara Ross of North Carolina.

In 1964, after an agricultural career in Delaware, he founded Vaughn Construction Co. in Mount Dora, and later switched roles with his son Stephen to operate Vaughn Realty. He was active on Lake County, Florida's Planning and Zoning Board, Association of Realtors, and co-founded the Home Builders Association of Lake County. He attended the University of Delaware and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and was a veteran of World War II. Stephen was happiest boating with family and friends on Lake Gertrude in Mount Dora.
