Peggy M. Kirby, loyal to Cape High

June 4, 2013

Peggy M. Kirby, 67, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013, after a courageous battle with a brain tumor at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.  She was born July 31, 1945, daughter of the late Daniel and Margaret (Mink) Taylor.

Peggy graduated from Conrad High School in Newport, and began a lifelong career with Cape Henlopen High School.  She was a career coach with Cape Henlopen, but became so much more to so many over the years.  Peggy loved her Cape family and loved her involvement with the high school band.

During football season Peggy could always be found at the admission gate selling tickets for the football team.  She was also the coach for Cape Henlopen High School Flag Team and loved watching the fruits of her labor through her "kids."  Peggy was an integral part of the culinary program at Cape and enjoyed watching this program evolve.  Peggy's heart not only belonged to her family, but also to her Cape family who were many.  In August of 2012 Peggy made the decision to retire from Cape Henlopen High School.

Peggy loved collecting Longaberger baskets almost as much as she loved helping others.  She was especially drawn to children who may have been in need of a little extra love. Peggy's family was first and foremost in her life.  She would go above and beyond for so many throughout her life and was a blessing to countless others.  Peggy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed dearly.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her two grandsons:  Richard James Greer and Jonathan Andrew Greer.  She is survived by her son Colby Smith and wife Erica of Rehoboth Beach; her daughter Holley Leary of Milton; five grandchildren: Erin Smith, Hunter Greer, Sean Leary, RJ Clark and Paige Clark; one sister:  Nancy Taylor of Frederick, Md.; and one brother: Dan Taylor and wife Vicky of North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6, at 7 p.m., at Eagles Nest Fellowship Church, 26633 Zion Church Road, Milton.  A viewing will be held Wednesday, June 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Peggy's memory may be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
