Anna L. Garzione, retired federal employee

Anna “Ann” L. Garzione, 71, of Ocean View, DE formerly of Waldorf, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Saturday, June 1, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Washington, D.C. Nov. 15, 1941, daughter of the late Gene and Elizabeth (Vaden) Whetzel.  She retired as an administrative secretary with the federal government serving in the Census Bureau after 26 years of service in 2005.  Ann was actively involved with the PWP group where she met her husband Frank.  She enjoyed dancing and was a devoted Christian and attended Bayshore Community Church in Gumboro.  Ann was deeply devoted to her family and loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 20 years, Frank Garzione; three children, Joletta Rankin and her husband James of Waldorf, Dawn Stamp of Waldorf, and Dwayne “Mark” Leigg of Stafford, Va.; three stepdaughters, Angela Smeal and her husband Clayton of Solomons Island, Md., Carmala Garzione and her husband Doug Haessig of Rochester, N.Y. and Carlina Garzione of Orlando, Fla.; six grandchildren, Launa McCowan and her husband Shane, Brittany Rankin, Joe Stamp and his wife Tamra, Randi Stamp, Cody Stamp and Marky Leigg; three stepgrandchildren, Kaitlyn Walker, Fiona Hodkinson and Alma Haessig; three great-grandchildren, Nya McCowan, Daylin McCowan and Jasmine Stamp; a sister, Phyllis Poore of Washington, Va.; and her beloved dog, Pearl.

A visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View.  A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 13, also at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Mariner’s Bethel Cemetery, Ocean View.
