John L. Fitzgerald, longtime disc jockey

John L. Fitzgerald, 68, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his hime after a short illness.

He was born Jan. 27. 1945, in Wilmington to the late Lloyd and Helen Fitzgerald.  He was also preceded in death by a nephew, Thomas Beckley, in 2005.

John was a self-employed contractor and jack of all trades.  He would do anything for anyone.  He loved being outdoors, gardening and photography and took many pictures of nature.  He loved fishing and metal detecting on the beach.  He enjoyed spending time with his grandson Blake.

He was a longtime DJ back in the day at The Stone Balloon in Newark, Odyssey South and Carl and Lenny's, both in Rehoboth. He was known by all as "John L."

In the past he was active with Lewes Little League, Punkin Chunkin, Lewes Maritime Project and the Lewes July Fourth Doo Dah Parade.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Andrew Fitzgerald of Lewes, Eric Matthew Fitzgerald of Seattle, Wash., John Fitzgerald Jr.of Florida and William Fitzgerald and his wife Terri of Lewes; four sisters, Patricia Beckley and husband Harry of Harbeson, Nancy Clark and husband Dave of Newark, Fay Anderson of Middletown and Debbie Dukes and husband Bob of West Virginia; his ex-wife Valerie Fitzgerald, who was by his side at the time of his passing; his grandson Andrew Blake Fitzgerald; and many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Stockley Center Cemetery in Georgetown at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 12.

Donations in John's memory may be made to a charity or function of choice.
