Clear Space Theatre Company of Rehoboth Beach is delighted and excited to announce their 2013 summer repertory season - three main-stage musicals, plus a late-night cabaret show.
The season opens with Jerry Herman’s "La Cage aux Folles," June 27 to Aug. 29. It is the hit musical version of the comedy “The Birdcage,” directed by Dot Neumann of Arena Stage, and co-starring North America’s foremost female impersonator, Christopher Peterson, as Albin, and local favorite John Zinzi as Georges. The action centers on their notorious St. Tropez nightclub - a place described as “bad and beautiful; it’s bawdy and bizarre!” Complications arise when their son brings his fiancé and her very conservative parents home for dinner. Hilarious and deeply moving, this tuneful and touching tale of one family’s struggle to stay together - stay fabulous - and above all else, stay true to themselves!
A special Opening Night Gala features wine, cheese and desserts as well as the opportunity to meet the director. Visit www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org for details.
The season continues with the one of the most popular musicals in theatre history - Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "The Sound of Music" July 1 to Aug. 31. Directed by Clear Space Artistic Director Doug Yetter, the true story of Maria, a nun who leaves the convent to become governess to the seven children of Captain von Trapp and changes their lives is told through one of the most well-known scores ever. “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss” will fill the theatre with the sound of music all summer long.
The World Premiere of "Radio GaGa - A Gleeful Event" July 12 to Sept. 7 will be directed by David Button and features the best vocal talent in the area. This brand new musical revue takes today’s biggest pop hits and gives them the Broadway treatment. Pop music’s hottest artists – Adele, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Beyonce, and more - will take over the stage through a talented ensemble of vocalists.
And finally, for the late-night crowd - La Cage Cabaret presents Christopher Peterson in "The Best of Eyecons." Peterson returns to Rehoboth Beach after a three-year absence, bringing along many of favorite “eyecons,” including Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli and more. No lip syncing in this popular show, and a must-see for all adult audiences. Friday and Saturday nights at 10 p.m. and Sundays at 9 p.m. through July and Aug.
Specific dates and reservations for all events, including the opening night gala, repertory theatre, and Eyecons are available through the box office, 302-227-2270 or online at www.ClearSpaceTheatre.org under the heading Purchase Tickets. Group rates are available.
