Vegan & Vegetarian Fare Finding an Audience in Rehoboth Beach

June 9, 2013

Rehoboth Beach has grown to become one of the most vegetarian/vegan friendly areas on the eastern shore. With more and more locals becoming health and humane minded, city folk vacationing or moving to the area are thrilled to find more and more options. Rehoboth Beach has exceptional variety.

These days, most restaurants in Rehoboth have vegetarian/vegan options. Grotto’s Pizza offers gluten-free pizza, the Big Fish Grill offers a Fresh Farmer’s Plate, and Arena’s Deli offers a dozen vegetarian sandwiches. But several cater specifically to that crowd.

Described as “eco-global fusion,” Hobos restaurant on Baltimore Avenue uses locally grown food while providing a menu rich in many different cultures. Much to a vegetarian’s delight, the menu is detailed with ingredients and their sources. The couscous salad with fire roasted vegetables is a pleasure for the taste buds!

Just two blocks over on Wilmington Avenue is the Green Man Juice Bar, where the focus is on whole foods.  They feature a full-service juice and smoothie bar and a spectacular breakfast! Guests rave about the delicious and nutritious smoothies, with ingredients like berries, beets, oranges, carrots, and peaches.

Down the street exists Planet X Café, a beautifully eclectic restaurant featuring local and organic ingredients. Most of their menu is available prepared vegan or vegetarian. While it’s available with jumbo shrimp, try it with crispy tofu: red Thai curry, seasonal vegetables, basmati rice, crispy wonton sticks, and toasted coconut.

Even if you don’t live the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, anyone can enjoy these creative and flavor-rich foods. Vegetarian fare is a great way to break up your normal dining routine, and good for you, too!
