Delta Sigma Theta to host Juneteenth Arts Festival June 22

Celebration of African-American culture

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Sussex County Alumnae Chapter, will host its inaugural Juneteenth Arts Festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 22, at Milton Memorial Park on Chandler Street in Milton.

Juneteenth is the oldest-known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth today celebrates African-American freedom and achievement while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures.

The festival is a celebration of African-American culture and features a variety of outdoor activities, musical entertainment, voter registration, face painting, crafts and games. Admission is free. There will be a concert featuring the Sussex Community Gospel Mass Choir at 11:30 a.m. Paul Butler, WBOC News anchor, will speak at noon. Beginning at 12:30 p.m., there will be performances by Friendship Baptist Church Praise Dancers and Faith Praise Dancers.

All proceeds from vendor tables and food sales will benefit Delta Sigma Theta  Sussex County Alumnae Chapter Scholarship Fund and other community programs.

The sorority invites the entire community to come out and eat, dance, play and enjoy the day.
