Gallery One to offer summer workshops and kids' classes

Hyper Realist Watercolor Painting begins June 27

Gallery One in Ocean View announces summer workshops and kids' classes from late June through August.

Hyper Realist Watercolor Painting with John Bayalis is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, June 27. Bayalis will introduce the participants to techniques specific to create hyper real or photorealist paintings in watercolor. The instruction will incorporate the use of photographs as a subject source for paintings. Bayalis is an award-winning watercolorist and was recently awarded second place in the I Love Watercolor contest sponsored by Senneier. This class is for beginners with some experience through advanced. Cost is $75.

On Thursdays, June 27, July 11 and 18, Angela Pierce will teach Children's Beading Basics. Children ages 9-14 will learn about the basics of designing two pieces of jewelry, a bracelet and a pair of earrings. Pierce worked in Maryland public schools for 25 years and currently teaches at Michael's. The class runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Fee is $25 + $5 materials fee. All materials and tools are provided with the $5 materials fee, payable to Angela Pierce.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays in July, and Aug. 5 and 6, Kate Heneghan will lead Drawing and Painting for Children.  Basic drawing and watercolor techniques will be explored along with lessons on composition.

This class is for ages 7-12. Heneghan studied in New York and Italy and has been an art educator since 1999. She recently earned a master's in art education. Fee is $25 per day and includes all materials.

Techniques in Watercolor with Sonia Hunt  is scheduled for 1:30 to 4 p.m., Thursdays, July 11, 18 and 25 and Aug. 1, 8, 15 and 22. Hunt will cover various techniques in watercolor with individualized and personal instruction. Color mixing, composition and different applications of paint will be explored. Watercolor techniques and applications will be demonstrated. Hunt is an award-winning watercolorist and has captured many of her travels in watercolor.  Fee is $30 per class.

Margaret Bayalis will teach Oil Painting in the Impressionist Style from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, employing the techniques used by the French and American impressionist painters. Students will learn to enhance their paintings using vivid color and more expressive brushwork and will explore techniques to create expressive paintings from photographic resources. Bayalis' style has a luminous quality which makes her paintings glow with inner light. She has exhibited extensively, and her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections. Fee is $75.
