Two hundred thirty-five attend NFL-sponsored camp at Cape Henlopen

June 17, 2013

Cape head coach Bill Collick served as the camp coordinator for the local NFL player development camp held June 10-14 at Cape Henlopen High School. The camp stressed football fundamentals along with an introductory dose of reality dealing with scholastic achievement  and emphasis on high character and setting realistic goals.

"Kids need to understand how the system works in high school and how to get to the next level," Collick said. "Half-stepping along just doesn't get the athlete anywhere, not even his own high school dream. We need for kids to understand that, and most of them do."

Cape, Sussex Central, Woodbridge, Milford and Sussex Tech along with most members of their coaching staffs are in camp with a record number 235 football athletes attending.

"The news rules allow us to coach our own kids," Collick said, "and so for part of each session we break up into teams, because we run different systems with different terminology."

Cape, Milford, Sussex Central and Sussex Tech will all play each other during the regular season.
