June 14, 2013

A 78-year-old Maryland man died June 14 following a two-car collision on Route 18 and 404 west of Georgetown that closed the roadway for three hours.

The accident happened at 11:08 a.m. west of Piglet Path Road when Thomas F. Ferry, 78, of Bethesda, Md., was driving his 1999 Isuzu Rodeo east on Route 18/404 when he drove into westbound traffic for unknown reasons, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

Ferry ran into a 2006 GMC Sierra driven by Thomas D. Slaughter, 65, of Bridgeville. Ferry was pronounced dead at the scene; Slaughter was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released, Fournier said.
