E3 2013 Game of the Show

Choosing one game as my “Game of the Show” was one of the most difficult things I have had to do in a while. E3 2013 brought us so many amazing games, including a lot of new IPs. When it came down to it, though, I had to follow my heart and choose the game that made me flail and smile the most: Super Mario 3D World.

Super Mario 3D Land for the 3DS is a game that is credited by many for “saving the 3DS.” It’s hard to believe now, but there was a time when the 3DS suffered from a lack of good games. Super Mario 3D Land was the first Mario title on the 3DS, and it got people excited for the handheld.

Now, Nintendo may be aiming to do the same thing with Super Mario 3D World on the Wii U. Developed by the team behind the Super Mario Galaxy games, this new title is like a blend of Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Galaxy.

For the first time since 1988, Mario is reunited with Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach in a 3D adventure. This is the first 3D Mario title to feature a true multiplayer experience. Fans of Super Mario Bros. 2 will be familiar with this lineup of characters and their unique abilities, such as Peach’s ability to float with her pretty pink dress.

An exciting new addition to the game is the cat suit, which allows the player or players to climb up walls and ledges or scratch enemies. Plus, it’s really cute.

Now, I know there were plenty of other games at E3 to be excited about, and trust me--I am really excited for Watch Dogs, The Division, Pikmin 3, and many more. But when I saw gameplay of Super Mario 3D World, I almost started to cry. Mario will always hold a special place in my heart, and because Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario Galaxy are two of my favorite Mario titles, this game looks to be a good blend of the two with some awesome new features thrown in. I can’t wait to see and hear more on this game.

The game comes out this November, exclusively on the Wii U.
