Anthony 'Tony' Barrett Baker, DuPont retiree

Anthony "Tony" Barrett Baker, 86, former resident of Mill Pond Acres, Lewes, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at his home in Lewes. He was born in Hammonton, N.J. April 10,1927. His parents were Joseph A. and Marie E. Baker of Hammonton.

Tony attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1946. He began his professional career as an accountant for RCA in Camden, N.J. Later, he worked for 38 years in the advertising and marketing communications departments of DuPont in Wilmington, retiring in 1985 as departmental control manager.

Mr. Baker was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes. Earlier, he was on the vestry committees of both St. John's Episcopal Church in Milton and Grace Episcopal Church in Wilmington.

Tony was independent, determined, and dedicated to helping others, including numerous local and national humanitarian organizations. He loved attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sports events. He was especially proud of their academic and career achievements. He enjoyed many things that life had to offer, but above all, a good conversation, meeting new acquaintances, and spending time with his growing family.

Tony was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Suzanne Reyam Baker, who died in 2009; and their youngest son, Gregory R. Baker, who died in 1995. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Sandra C. Baker of Milton, and his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara B. and Clint Correll of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren Jonathan Baker and his wife Joanna of Davidsonville, Md., James Baker and his wife Eileen of Lewes; Jeremy Correll and his wife Jessica of Portland, Ore., Joel Correll of Williamsburg, Robert Baker and his wife Anne, of Worcester, Mass., Jessica Schillumeit of Williamsburg, Joseph Baker of Lewes and Joy Correll of Virginia Beach, Va.; and great-grandchildren Lilian, Caroline, Ella, Dylan, Laila, Rose, Lucy, Tatum, and Teagan.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Second Street, Lewes, at 11 a.m., Friday, June 28. Interment at St. Peter's Cemetery Pilottown will be private. There will be no calling hours.
