Update: Lewes woman shot in head expected to survive

June 27, 2013

Two men forcibly entered a manufactured home Tuesday, June 25, and shot a 38-year-old woman in the head after she woke up.

The woman and her 12-year-old daughter were sleeping in a bedroom of the home in the 33000 block of Fox Glove Run west of Lewes when the men entered the home about 6:35 a.m., said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police.

The two woke up and one of the men shot the woman in the head with a handgun, Fournier said. On June 26, Fournier said that the woman is in stable condition and is expected to survive. The investigation is ongoing; through interviews, Fournier said, police believe this was not a random act and that the victim was targeted.

The men left in an unknown direction without taking cash or items. The 12-year-old called 911; the woman was taken to a local hospital, Fournier said.
