John Russell Lynch Jr., retired sales manager

June 25, 2013

John Russell "Russ" Lynch Jr., 96, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 23, 2013, at his home with his daughter Nancy and caregiver Elsie Gibson by his side. He was born in Hazleton, Pa., son of the late John Russell Lynch and Kathryn Deitz Lynch. Russ spent much of his life in Lewes along with his wife Mary Jane (Buddie) Lynch, who preceded him in death in 2006.

After a long career as a sales manager with Alcoa, Russ and Buddie retired permanently to Lewes in 1977. Here they enjoyed the Lewes community, the homeplace of his parents and grandparents.

Russ was a practical and generous man who had a passion for boating and golf, and who loved taking family and friends out on his boat called the Escapade. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Country Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and Bethel United Methodist Church where he had served for many years on the cemetery committee. Until his health began to fail, he looked forward to a daily outing of “coffee with the boys” at the Lemon Tree Restaurant in Lewes.

He is survived by his daughters, Carol L. Roberts of Kilmarnock, Va. and Nancy S. Massingham and her husband Gordon, of Vineyard Haven, Mass. Russ loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who visited often and knew him as “Pop Pop." They include grandchildren, Amy R. Carneal and husband David, of Midlothian Va., Robbie Roberts and wife Susan, of Midlothian and Jesse B. Smith and wife Stacy, of Newfield, N.H. He is also survived by two nieces, Joanna Lynch and partner Mark Youdall of Trinidad, Calif., Tracy Krause and husband Rich of Lewes, and nephew Jeffrey Lynch of College Park, Md.

A special appreciation is extended to Christine Skinner and Elsie Gibson of Griswold Home Care and also to Hospice Compassionate Care for their support.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 29, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 129 West Fourth St., Lewes. Burial will follow the services at the Bethel Methodist Cemetery, Lewes, followed by a reception at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewes Vol. Fire Department Ambulance Service, PO Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958.

Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes, Lewes.
