Chris Downs, fashion choreographer

Chris Downs, 52, passed away at his residence after a long illness.

Born in Darby, Pa., he was a son of Harry and Mary Downs. Known as the “Philly Ambassador,” Chris was a former professional dancer and fashion choreographer. Chris graduated from Widener University in Chester, Pa. and resided in Millsboro for the past 13 years. Chris also was known in his family for his love of dolphins, purchasing every conceivable memorabilia possible.

Survivors include his parents Harry and Mary “Mink” Downs of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; sisters Mary Rybicki (Joseph) of Havertown, Pa., and Michele Whitman (Joseph) of Hampton, Ga.; a brother Harry Downs Jr. (Mary Frances) of Dalton, Mass.; three nieces, five nephews; six great-nieces and -nephews and several aunts and uncles.

A private memorial service took place Thursday, June 27, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel with Father Ray Carlo officiating. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.

Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
