Sussex County Pomona Grange No. 3 recently presented a Public Service Award to Sen. Ernie Lopez, R-Lewes at the annual picnic in Georgetown Park hosted by Midland Grange No. 27. All five Sussex County Granges were represented.

The Public Service Award is given in recognition of personal commitment and involvement in the community.  Lopez is employed by the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources as the state 4-H volunteer coordinator. 4-H is the largest youth development program in the state of Delaware.

Lopez is a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach, where he is active in the Sunday school program. He serves on the board of the Sussex Child Health Promotion Coalition. He is married to Janis Christine Lopez and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Anna and Claire. Lopez is described as a good family man, and the Grange is a family-oriented organization.
