Lewes Library awards Smail Memorial Scholarship to Aldred

July 15, 2013

In a ceremony in the Delaware Room of the Lewes Public Library July 3, Trevor Aldred received the 2013 Christopher Smail Memorial Scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship recognizes exemplary service to the library by volunteer students. Aldred is a 2013 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School. The scholarship will help pay for college expenses at the University of Delaware, where he plans to study biology.

Karen Smail, left, and staff member Heather Lachmann, right, presented the scholarship and plaque, which shows names of all scholarship winners.  Smail is the mother of Christopher Smail, a 2010 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and recipient of the award for whom the scholarship has been named. He died in an automobile crash in November 2010. Lachmann is the first recipient of the library scholarship that began in 2007 and currently is on staff at the library.
