LYC swimmers top tough Seaford team

The Lewes Yacht Club swim team remained undefeated with a 290-253 victory July 1 over Seaford Swim Association. In the close meet, LYC's depth in the relays turned out to be the difference as the team won eight of the 12 freestyle relays and six of the 10 medley relays.

LYC swimmers had to fight hard to overcome the tough Venables family of swimmers from Seaford. Three family members won eight races in three different age groups.

For LYC, two swimmers were triple individual winners: Evan Burris, in 6-and-under boys, won the backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke; and in 9-10 girls, Madison Conrad won the freestyle, butterfly and 100-meter IM. She also swam on two winning relay teams.

Brian Fleming, in 7-8 boys, won the backstroke and freestyle; and David Hentnick, 13-14 boys, won the freestyle and 100-meter IM.

Other winners in boys' competition included Declan Morrissey, 7-8, breaststroke; Gannon Burris, 7-8, butterfly, Alex Koppenhaver, 9-10, breaststroke; Sammie Price, 9-10, freestyle; Matt Lionetti, 13-14, breaststroke; Tyler Mitchell, 15-18, won the 100-meter IM; and Dylan Vansant, 15-18, freestyle

For the LYC girls, Sarah Beaverson won the freestyle and 100-meter IM.

Other girls' winners included Quinn Nutter, 6-and-under, backstroke; Macy Steinwedel, 6-and-under, breaststroke; Shelby Manlove, 6-and-under, freestyle; Abby Betts, 7-8, freestyle; Annie Carter, 7-8, breaststroke; Fiona Pando, 9-10, breaststroke; Romy Stancofski, breaststroke; and Kaitlin Philcox, 15-18, backstroke.
