Fraternal Order of Eagles to hold July 20 carnival to benefit diabetes research

Sussex County Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 4528 welcomes the community to take part in a special Charity Carnival to benefit diabetes research Saturday, July 20, from noon to 6 p.m., at the Sussex County Eagles, located at 34899 Atlantic Ave., Clarksville.

The carnival is open to the public at no charge. Festivities include a dunk tank, bobbing for fish, a ring toss, football toss, water games, corn hole and a special appearance by a clown. Carnival favorites including popcorn, funnel cakes, peanuts, hot dogs, hamburgers and snow cones will be available throughout the event.

Proceeds from the event benefit The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center (DRC) at the University of Iowa.

Sussex County Eagles members will be on hand to provide information on the DRC and educate guests on the various current and historical accomplishments and offerings of The Fraternal Order of Eagles.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will be housed at the John and Mary Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building on the campus of The University of Iowa in Iowa City. The state-of-the-art center will host leaders in the field of Diabetes Research in an effort to find a cure for the disease. The F.O.E. has pledged to donate $25 million over a five-year period to fund research efforts. To date, the Eagles have given $19 million to the university to help bring an end to Diabetes.

The Sussex County Eagles has maintained a presence in the community since 2009 and currently hosts nearly 500 combined Aerie and auxiliary members.
