Fourteen millionth vehicle uses Cape May-Lewes Ferry service

The Cape May-Lewes Ferry registered its 14 millionth vehicle July 12 at the Lewes Ferry Terminal. George and Patricia Ungemah of Millsboro purchased a ticket for the 11:15 a.m. departure bound for Cape May, N.J.

Lewes Terminal Manager Nikki Fisher presented the Ungemahs with a gift package of Cape May-Lewes Ferry logo items and a book of six vehicle tickets valid for future travel aboard the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Accompanied by their dog, Amber, the couple were traveling to New Jersey with their grandsons, Matthew and Liam McDavitt, to visit family. Originally from Homdel, N.J., the Ungemahs use the ferry at least once a month to visit with family in Lincroft, N.J.

For nearly 50 years, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry has offered continuous service for residents and visitors alike between the Cape May and Lewes resort regions. In addition to 14 million vehicles, the popular ferry service has served more than 42 million passengers in its history. The first ferry vessel departed the Lewes terminal at 6:47 a.m., July 1, 1964, carrying eight vehicles and 15 passengers.
