University of Delaware rising senior Ben Woratyla took top honors in the grueling Dewey Beach Patrol Rookie of the Year contest July 16 and 17 where power, strength and endurance were demonstrated by 13 first-year Dewey guards. Ryan Sterrett was the runner-up in the two-day test.
Events such as the sprint swim, buoy charges, run-swim-run, rescue swim, half-mile run, soft sand sprint, push-ups, line charges and stand pull made the rookies show their toughness during strenuous competitions.
