Nanticoke Health Services along with Gallery 107 of Seaford hosted a mixer with the Seaford and Laurel Chambers of Commerce on Thursday, July 18th.  The event showcased a new partnership between Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and Gallery 107 to feature artwork from local artists.  Artwork includes compositions from both adult and child artists and will be rotated on a quarterly basis.  Artwork is on display within the hospital, located just outside the Day Surgery area.

“We are so pleased to be able to showcase some of the wonderful talent from our community,” said Steven Rose, President and CEO of Nanticoke Health Services.  Working with Gallery 107 not only allows Nanticoke to support a very worthwhile community organization, but also brightens the hallways of our hospital for our patients, visitors and staff.”

Gallery 107 is the storefront for the Nanticoke River Arts Council.  Located on High Street in Seaford, DE, Gallery 107 features all local artisans working in the following mediums: watercolors, pen and ink, acrylics, pastels, oils, photography, scale models, wood turnings, and jewelry.  The Nanticoke River Arts Council is a 501(3)c non-profit organization.

During the mixer, tours of the newly renovated Day Surgery Unit at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital were also offered.  The 18-bed unit underwent its first renovation in nearly 12 years.  The space is now updated with a modern but warm feel.  “Staff is very proud of the new unit,” says Lana Gillespie, Manager of the Day Surgery Unit.  “Patients have a calming environment to rest both before and after same day surgery.  Being in a calm, peaceful environment is an important part of the patient’s experience, helping them to relax makes surgery less stressful and helps them feel better faster.  Changes in components such as the nursing station have also improved work flows, allowing staff to more easily move from station to station.”

The renovation of Nanticoke’s Day Surgery Unit is another step in the process as Nanticoke continues to update the hospital.  Other recent renovations include the main lobby and the inpatient surgical unit on the fifth floor which houses Nanticoke’s Joint Camp.  In the next couple of weeks, the hospital will begin the process of converting to all private inpatient rooms.  Renovations on the second and third floors are scheduled to begin by the end of July.
