Billy Simmons retires and starts an IRC for Axis Seed

July 29, 2013

Billy Simmons, a well-known seedsman throughout Delmarva, recently retired and has started Tidewater Seed LLC, an independent regional company to represent Axis Seed throughout Delmarva and the Mid-Atlantic states.

The 40-year veteran of the seed industry took the initiative to be able to continue to serve longtime customers and new prospects with a robust selection of genetics and traits for corn and soybeans.

“I chose to be an Axis Seed IRC much because of their business model. It’s unique and lets me have immediate access to a deep pool of products that I can pair with my customers’ needs,” Simmons said. “Plus, it’s nice to deal with other seed industry veterans like the Biondis, who are leading the Axis brand.”

Simmons’ long history of working with farmers in the eastern U.S. has given him the opportunity to test and evaluate how products perform in the local area, so he can make individualized recommendations. He has a solid reputation and is considered an expert seedsman.

“Billy is a man who knows his seed and understands what hybrids work on my land. Plus he’s genuinely interested in helping me run a profitable operation,” said longtime customer David Andrew of Hurlock, Md.

Simmons will work with farmers in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia to evaluate and recommend the best Axis Seed genetics for their individual operations and production strategies.

Tidewater Seed LLC is one of 13 independent regional companies for Axis Seed. Contact Simmons at Tidewater Seed LLC, 410-829-9337.
