UPDATE: Frank A. Gentkowski, 90, dies in West Bay Park fire

July 29, 2013

A 90-year-old man and two dogs died in a July 27 mobile home fire in West Bay Park, off Camp Arrowhead Road. The Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man as Frank A. Gentkowski, whose death has been ruled an accident, said Jill Fredel, director of communication for the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company arrived at the home in the 34000 block of North Drive just before 9 a.m. Rehoboth firefighters were joined by units from Lewes Fire Department, Indian River Fire Company and Sussex County EMS.

Firefighters found Gentkowski in a side bedroom. Delaware state troopers and neighbors tried unsuccessfully to rescue the victim, but were driven back by the heat and smoke, said Warren Jones, spokesman for the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co.

He was taken to Beebe Medical Center by Rehoboth Beach Fire Company EMS and Sussex County paramedics.

Firefighters also found two dogs deceased in the residence.
