Milford Community Band performs free summer concert

August 13, 2013

The Milford Community Band, southern Delaware's longest-performing community band, gave a free summer concert Aug. 4 at the Milford Riverfront Theater in front of 150 loyal fans.

The MCB, entertaining Delaware audiences for 23 years, was founded by Joe Lear and is conducted by Phil Steinhoff, shown above.  The band played a tribute to Broadway musicals with pieces from the 1920s' "Showboat" up through the '60s and '70s with numbers from "The Sound of Music," "Bye Bye Birdie," "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Abba on Broadway."

"Conducting this band is an absolute joy," said Steinhoff. "The only reason they have been performing for so long is that they play for the love of it. I'm so blessed to be a part of it."
