John T. Vassallo Sr., retired hospital employee

John T. Vassallo  Sr.  79, of  Lewes, formerly of Brandywine, Md.,  passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

He was born in Leonardtown, Md., March 9, 1934.  Mr. Vassallo served as chief in the mechanical section of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, D.C. for 38 years prior to retirement.  He was a life member of the VFW in Milton,  the American Legion in Seaford, and had served in the U.S. Navy.  He was predeceased by his adoptive parents, Anthony and Mabel Vassallo who were from Camp Springs, Md.

He is survived by his wife, Marie G. (Clarke) Vassallo; his son, John T. Vassallo Jr. and wife Kathryn of Deale, Md.; his daughter, Anna Marie Mayo and husband Larry of Lewes; his sister, Celeste Dowell of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Heller and husband Brian and Victoria McCann and husband Richard, all of Deale, and Leona Delli  and husband Giorgio of Melbourne, Fla.;  great-granddaughter Anna M. Delli of Melbourne; and soon to be great-grandson Stewey.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit Tuesday, Aug. 6,  from 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will follow the services at Henlopen Memorial Park, 28787 Lockerman Road, Milton.
