Beatrice Akerly, retired seamstress

Beatrice Isabelle Payne Akerly, 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, in Leesburg, Va.

Beatrice was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Pokomoke, Md. to Brinkman and Leona Mae Payne. Bea spent most of her life on the Delmarva Peninsula, residing mostly in Milton and Lewes.  She resided 22 years in York, Pa., where she retired from Danskin and moved back to Rehoboth Beach.

Bea was a very active member of the Lewes Senior Center. Bea resided in Huling Cove for 15 years. Bea loved to travel and be with family. Bea loved the boardwalk, eating at The Lemon Tree and feeding the leftovers to the seagulls at Lewes Beach.

Bea was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Lester Akerly in 1988; and her long time companion Ralph Baringer in 2000.

Bea is survived by three sisters, Nina Silverthorne of Pokomoke, Eunice Watson of Pokomoke, and Rosemarie Wainwright of Berlin, Md.; and one brother, Vaughn Payne (wife Viola) of Fruitland, Md.; three daughters, Darlene Walls (husband Robert) of Seaford, Nancy Ioli (husband Bill) of Great Falls, Va., and April Hippensteel (husband Greg) of Hanover, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Michelle Walls (friend Robert Warren), Robert S. Walls (wife Christina), Kristie Raley, Eric Conrad (wife Katy), Jennifer Perillo (husband Paul), David Hippensteel (wife Molly), and Douglas Hippensteel; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 8, at Holloway Funeral Home in Pokomoke.
