Khalil Gorgui, MD, Medical Director, Nanticoke Memorial Hospital’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center

Nanticoke Health Services is pleased to announce that Khalil F. Gorgui, MD, Medical Director of the Nanticoke Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, has recently been named an associate of the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA).  The APWCA is an independent multidisciplinary organization that serves as a resource to health care providers, patients and care givers, insurance companies, governmental agencies and industry while promoting excellence in wound care and patient advocacy.

Dr. Gorgui, an Internal Medicine physician who specializes in hyperbaric and wound management, brings with him broad experience in wound care, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and internal medicine.   Dr. Gorgui is Board Certified in internal medicine and has been a senior member of the medical staff at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital since 1995. He completed his residency at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in Englewood, New Jersey, an affiliate with Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is credentialed in wound care management and hyperbaric medicine, having received extensive training through Comprehensive Healthcare Solutions in Naperville, Illinois.

At Nanticoke’s Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center, a specialty-trained team is available to manage all types of wounds as early and efficiently as possible. The first step in the road to healing a chronic wound is a holistic examination, including evaluation for any possible infection or problems with blood flow to the affected area.  The patient’s medical history, diet and nutritional status are also reviewed, in order to identify any potential impediments to wound healing.  Collaborating with the center’s team of trained clinicians, an individualized plan of care is then created and communicated to the primary care physician, who continues to treat underlying conditions and provide overall care for the patient. The treatment plan is designed to complement the primary or referring physician’s care.  Advanced wound care dressings and treatments are available to promote rapid healing.  A physician has the option to call the center for an appointment for his or her patients, or patients may call the center directly at 302-628-8322.

Nanticoke Health Services was the first facility in Delaware to provide hyperbaric oxygen therapy and remains the only site in Sussex County to offer this treatment.  Advanced wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy is covered by Medicare and most commercial insurances, and offers hope for healing to those in our community who have had problem wounds for many years!   Hyperbaric oxygen therapy also supports the healing of tissue or body organs damaged by radiation therapy.   This treatment modality is often the only effective option for improving quality of life for those suffering from late effects of radiation therapy!

Nanticoke Memorial Hospital is ranked number among the top 5% in the nation for Critical Care Medicine for 2012 and 2013 by Health Grades, Inc. Nanticoke has been named one of the Best 100 Places to Work in Healthcare by Becker’s Hospital Review for three years in a row. Nanticoke Memorial Hospital holds a Level III trauma status and includes an expanding interventional cardiology program. Nanticoke is nationally accredited by the Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and is a Gold Plus Award performer according to the American Heart/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®.
