Senior Italian girls end District III bid for repeat 1-0

The senior league girls from Europe and Africa ended the hopes of the District III team to repeat as World Series champions as the Italian squad downed Laurel 1-0.

Italian pitchers Laura Bigatton and Beatrice Zappa held the high-powered Laurel squad scoreless to move to the finals against the USA Central all-stars. The District 11 all-stars from South Bend, Ind., downed USA West 3-1 to move into the finals.

The USA Central squad then defeated Europe and Africa to win the Senior League World Series.
