Sussex Tech students attend Governor's School for Excellence

August 26, 2013

Three academically and artistically talented rising 11th-graders from around the State of Delaware were accepted for positions at the Governor’s School for Excellence. Chosen through a highly competitive nomination, application and assessment or audition process, these Sussex Tech students participated in activities designed to empower and motivate students to strive for personal excellence.

Sussex Tech students Abigail Gaunt of Greenwood, Isabella Nicoletti of Lewes, and Sam Seibert of Milford spent one week of July living in a college dorm and participating in academic or artistic development with premier faculty at the University of Delaware.

Students broadened their horizons with cultural experiences including an Introduction to Chinese Culture and teamwork activities such as Odyssey of the Mind.

Academic students explored ideas and philosophies in economics and humanities, attended presentations, and participated in an interdisciplinary field trip.

Music students attended master’s classes and music theory lectures with noted artists and performed with their peers at the closing ceremony.

The Office of the Governor and the Delaware Department of Education sponsored the program.
